Social Entrepreneurship & social iNnovation happenS to Every Student-SENSES
About the Project
SENSES aims to promote and improve enterpreneurship education at schools by designing innovative products and teaching/learning methods, to cultivate to students at Primary Education, ages 7-12 with structured competences of social entrepreneurship and innovation context with the mission to develop adaptable thinkers, collaborative problem solvers and irrepressibles social innovators.
Our Team
SENSES promotes the joint action of 8 organisations (non-profit, business, education institutions) across 4 European countries (UK, Spain, Italy, Greece) who will carry out a cross-disciplinary, bottom-up process leading to the production of innovative products and teaching learning methods, targeting school communities with various needs regarding the implementation of Enterpreneurship approaches into teaching.
SENSES has been developed to address a set of specific educational challenges of the 21st century. Social and economic change has been rapid in recent decades, but the skills and knowledge imparted to our children does not reflect this change. There is a need for schools to prepare their students for jobs that have not been created and technologies that have not been invented. The best way of doing this is by empowering teachers and students with skills for Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SEI). This is vital for the sustainable development of European societies.
SENSES will develop a new educational approach, providing teachers within primary education with an understanding of social innovation and social entrepreneurship and with tools which can be used to enhance skills in teaching SEI (Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship). In addition, the project will support learners aged between 7-12 in developing a set of structured competences required to be enterprising and entrepreneurial in a social context. These competences will include adaptability, solving complex and ‘wicked’ problems, creativity and innovation and collaboration.
About
SENSES
SENSES responds to the ‘aspect’ that teachers are the heart of our education system and this is what can facilitate children’s learning, or inspiring the passion for social entrepreneurship and innovation (knowledge, skills, expertise of teachers). Our project’s main principle is that, if the benefits of social entrepreneurship in education are to be enjoyed by as many as possible children, then TEACHERS need to be at the heart of that delivery. Investing in teachers’ understanding and knowledge of SEI (Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship) is the way of maximizing the number of children understanding and being immersed in the ‘world’ of social entrepreneurship & innovation.
Providing also children with that kind of practical context and connection with real world challenges, in order for them to identify social issues and develop solutions, constitutes major axe for our project. In this context, SENSES addresses the following objectives:
A capacity building programme which will support the development of knowledge and skills that teachers require to teach social entrepreneurship and social innovation.
